The ‘Sea Ear’ poem for SAMS

The ‘Sea Ear’ poem for SAMS

Introducing a wearable poem focusing on underwater sound, developed by the award-winning poet Suzannah V. Evans in collaboration with SAMS.

Collaboration SAMS x Suzannah V. Evans

This concrete poem, intended to be ‘seen’ rather than ‘heard’, lends an ear to the underwater environment, capturing the experience of listening to the sea with hydrophones. It plays with ideas of seeing and hearing, moving from privileging seeing to a merging of the two senses at the end of the poem. Drawing inspiration from marine science, Suzannah’s poetry centres on a close and sensorial engagement with the underwater world.
